Ambulance training

People who passed their car driving test after January 1st 1997 need to take a test to drive a vehicle with a maximum permitted weight exceeding 3.5 tonnes. A goods vehicle licence up to a maximum of 7.5 tonnes requires the driver to hold an LGV C1 licence. To take this test candidates must be at least 18 years old.

If you are over 21 you can go straight to an LGV C licence which allows you to drive all rigid lorries.

For those people who passed their driving test prior to January 1st 1997 they can drive vehicles up to 7.5 tonnes (category C1), tow a trailer with a car (category B+E), and tow a small trailer only with 7.5 tonne vehicle (category C1+E, restriction 107, 8250kg).
